However, in a statement on Tuesday night, signed by his spokesperson, Victor Oshioke, Oshiomole disclosed that he has engaged lawyers to appeal the judgement. The statement, obtained by POLITICS NIGERIA, read;

“Today the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja passed judgement on the purported suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as a member of APC by three former Exco members of APC Ward 10, Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State. In the said judgement, the Appeal Court upheld the decision of the lower court.”

“Lawyers for Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have immediately set in motion processes to appeal the judgement in the coming days. It is pertinent to state categorically that today’s judgement does not invalidate decisions and actions taken within the top echelon of APC at any time before now.”

“Expectedly, many fake news will by flying all over social media, merchandising concocted scenarios as privileged information. We call on the general public to ignore such sensational stories, remain calm and be rest assured that everything is under control. There is absolutely no cause for alarm.”

“We are conscious of the anxiety out there, and we will do everything possible to ensure that the truth prevails in this case.”

Oshiomole has been replaced with Former Oyo governor, Abiola Ajimobi. He would hold the position in an acting capacity. However, Ajimobi’s appointment has been challenged by a court order from the Deputy National Secretary and a member of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, Victor Giadom.

POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that an FCT high court order issued on March 16th declared Giadom as the national chairman of the party should Oshiomole be suspended.

Through a press release signed by its Chairman, Dr Agam Ayuk and the Secretary, Dr Ezoke Epoke, the NMA said the plan by the state government to commence a trial resumption of three public schools is scary.

The Association said students are at risks of the contracting the virus if they resume

NMA, however, called for the adoption of educational technologies to provide remote learning opportunities and educational programmes for students in public schools in the interim.

Update about school resumption: final year students please take note.

As regards to the outbreak of covid-19 in Nigeria, all schools have been shut down. For most schools, there are not having online lectures while others have switched to virtual learning.

The minister of state for education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has revealed recently, that the federal government is planning on how to reopen schools to all Nigerian students.

As he further detailed that preventive measures must be taken if schools reopens as the federal government is planning to. He said that the guidelines given by the Nigeria center for disease control (NCDC) must be strictly adhered. So that the lives of students won’t be in danger. He revealed that social distancing is one of the measures given, to ease the spread of coronavirus in Nigeria.

As rumours are going round saying that final year students will be allowed to resume schools before others, so that they can write their final exams. Looking at things, all the news are false because the minister of state for education by name Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has revealed that the federal government has plans for schools to reopen nationwide. But it won’t be based on people’s assumption that final year students will resume schools before others, in reference of writing their final exams.

Minister Nwajiuba gives further explanation on why exam classes might not be allowed to resume before others.

He revealed the fact saying, most universities in Nigeria for instance government own universities are up to 200 in each level. As he assumes how 200 students can write exams in small class or hall, without going contrary to one of the Nigeria center for disease control (NCDC) preventive measures, which is social distancing.

He concluded by revealing that the federal government has instructed all students to read their books, so that they won’t be any form of examination malpractice. He urges students to stay at home until official announcement is made by the federal government regarding to when schools will resume.

Schools will reopen on 1 June but will have to follow these seven conditions

Grade 7 and 12 pupils will return to their classes on 1 June-however schools will follow stringent Standard Operating Procedures.

Picture from Adobe StockSchools wishing to invite pupils back to their classrooms after lockout would require strict health and safety guidelines, as provided by the Basic Education Department.

After a lengthy period of confusion about the 2020 school curriculum and delays to the original timetable of the department, Minister Angie Motshekga announced on Thursday evening her ‘back to school’ program. After having met multiple stakeholders Including teachers’ unions, the Council of Ministers of Education (CEM) and the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) — Motshekga announced a updated school calendar that would see Grade 7 and 12 pupils returning to classrooms on 1 June 2020.

However, the recommendation from the Department of Basic Education does come with a number of caveats. Motshekga was prompt to find out that it relies on many factors to enforce the updated school calendar, which implements a carefully controlled phased-in strategy.

To comply with the current timetable, schools would need to meet a range of prerequisites that show an appropriate state of readiness. Schools that refuse to show their precautionary abilities and effective protection procedures can be prohibited from reopening until both state and regional authorities have inspected them.

Criteria for reopening: What the schools need to do

The reopening of schools must follow a three-tier strategy, including: preparedness, a program turnaround process and a set of basic operating practices, to be adhered to as agencies.

Should pupils return, schools need to: you

See the return of school management teams and teachers (on May 25) to track the readiness of the school

Sanitize all classrooms and buildings (as part of the Standard Operating Procedures)

Furnishing personal protection equipment (PPE) to all school staff

Reconditioning classrooms to reduce social gap and restrict movement

Provide for a adequate number of facemasks (to be used by both learners and staff at all times)

Ensure access to running water and sewage stations by hand

Ensure you have COVID-19 screening programs in operation

Normal business procedures

Besides the state of preparedness, schools that are considered fit for reopening will need to make dramatic improvements to the schedule of everyday education. Motshekga summarized the basic operating procedures which should be adopted by the schools. Shipped to all schools in the region, this booklet includes:

Physical differences in schools, with no more than 2 shared desks for learners;

No handshakes or kisses

Please prevent close communication

Tuch masks to be used at all times by learners and teachers

No major mass gatherings. No sporting events, choral services, festivals or eisteddfods are permitted

Extra classes should be arranged in small groups, which keep social distances

Sanitize the classrooms before school day begins

Sanitize hands on classroom entry

Limits learner movement between classes

No chairs grouped in classrooms

Additionally, health and safety orientation sessions will be provided to school staff on how to help fight COVID-19 in classrooms.

Sad story of a food vendor who was shot dead by police officer for flouting coronavirus curfew.

A 35-year-old food vendor from Jinja Central market in Uganda, who was allegedly shot by a police officer on patrol vehicle for defying an all-night curfew has succumbed to the gunshot wounds.

Evelyn Namulondo died on Friday morning, May 15, at Jinja regional referral hospital where she was admitted in the emergence ward on Wednesday morning. A doctor at Jinja hospital said on condition of anonymity that Namulondo died because of multiple organ failure.

“We did our best and cleaned her intestines but discovered that the bullet was stuck in the liver, leaving it shattered which endangered other essential body organs,” he said.

A night curfew imposed by President Yoweri Museveni to curb the spread of coronavirus runs from 7 pm to 6.30 am. Namulondo was heading to Amber Court market from her home in Budhumbuli Ward at around 5 am to purchase fruits on Wednesday morning when she was shot in the abdomen.

Narrating what had happened before she died, Namulondo said that she was travelling with another passenger on a motorcycle when police intercepted them along Kyabazinga Way, but the motorist declined to stop, prompting the officers to open fire.

“We begged the bodaboda man to stop but he refused, which I think angered the policemen to shoot at us. I fell after sustaining injuries. The motorist sped off with the other passenger and all I recall is that the police officers dumped me here [hospital],” she said.

The deceased’s sister, Agatha Musekwa, says her sister didn’t get the required medical attention after being shot, and this led to her death.
