SaharaReporters had on Tuesday exclusively reported that President Buhari, who was deeply angered by the embarrassing crisis in Aso Villa, was preparing to fire his security details and some top aides for the roles they all played in dragging the Presidency into the mud.

It was gathered that President Buhari decided to take the step after Mamman Daura, his nephew and one of his closest confidants, was seen weeping as he made his way to his office.

Daura was said to have informed Buhari that his security aides were not only after Yusuf’s life but his own as well.

Buhari gave the nod for all persons involved in the alleged threat to the lives of the two men to be removed.

The crisis started with Yusuf’s refusal to embark on a 14-day isolation period after returning to Abuja from a trip to Lagos last week.

This led to the arrest and eventual redeployment of the Aide De Camp to Mrs Buhari and other security details attached to her after it was claimed that they threatened to kill the President’s Assistant in the process of trying to get him out of the Villa.

Inside sources say the latest step by the President could further stir the bad blood among different power blocs in Aso Villa, especially with the First Lady vowing to take a pound of flesh for being embarrassed by Yusuf and other ‘cabal’ members.

President Muhammadu Buhari has established a joint military/police operation force known as “Operation Accord”

President Muhammadu Buhari has established a joint military/police operation force known as “Operation Accord” to crush bandits that have taken over the states of northwest Nigeria. The president indicated that Operation Accord will go after the bandits in Niger, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto states to retrieve the states from the criminals and restore peace and security in the troubled zone. The new security structure has been mandated to sustain improved surveillance, utilizing the night vision aircraft already deployed under “Operation Accord’’.

President Buhari in a statement by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, indicated that the operation was commenced three weeks ago. He expressed his optimism that, “Nigeria’s military has displayed its capabilities in the past and will show it again by dealing with the current challenges.”

President Buhari assured Nigerians that the nation’s armed forces are fully capable of dealing with the challenges of banditry and terrorism. He appealed for more patience, adding that the military is taking appropriate steps to block gaps being exploited to unleash mayhem on innocent citizens in the troubled northwest states.

The President also appealed to the people of Katsina State to be patient and supportive of the ongoing military operations in the state while sympathizing with those who are bereaved, injured, and lost properties.

President Buhari warned that taking to the streets on protest could distract the military operations. He urged “Katsina indigenes not to give up on the military who over the years have a strong track record of quelling crises once given enough time;” adding: “The major forests in North-Western Nigeria have been identified as home to the bandits in the region. The operation will clear all these forests.”

According to him, he said his next line of action will be based on legal advise. In his word: “If you ask me what I am doing now, I am resting in obedience to the court order, I am reflecting, and I am consulting with my lawyers”, implying that whatever comes out of his consultation with his legal team will be the position he is going to take.

Oshiomole reiterated that the party APC is a structured organization being run based on rules and regulation, insisting no one can just do anything on his or her own whims. He said that those who are determined to achieve personal agenda under the guise of the current crisis rocking the National Secretariat are already at work, but as long as the party’s constitution still reign supreme, they will fail.

Oshiomole stated further that the affairs of the party is run by the National Working Committee. He insisted that the NWC is still intact, and nothing could be done unless it is approved by the committee.

These are some of the breaking News in Nigeria this Evening, 18th of June 2020.

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, says on Thursday that the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress is a show of God’s anger on the ruling party.

Fayose said the crisis was a price for the role the APC played in impoverishing Nigerians, adding that things would get worse for the party.

The former governor in a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, said the APC had been treating Nigerians with contempt.

A part of the statement said; “For Nigeria to return to the path of progress that it was before the APC took over power, more confusion will have to hit the party till it goes into oblivion.

Definitely, their matters will be made worse with time because for Nigeria and its people to return to the path of peace and progress, the APC house of lies that is being nurtured with the blood of Nigerians must collapse.”

2. Your best is not good enough – Buhari tells security chiefs.

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally admitted that although the nation’s service chiefs are trying to tackle the security challenges being experienced across the country, their best is not good enough.

He has therefore told them that he will no longer accept what he described as excuses.

The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of a meeting Buhari had with the security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja today being Thursday.

Monguno quoted Buhari as telling the service chiefs he appointed since 2015 that he expected them to henceforth live up to expectations.

With the rising cases of insecurity across the country, individuals and groups have been calling on the President to change the service chiefs, some of whom he has on different occasions extended their tenure.

3. APC in South Africa denies death of their Chairman.

The South African Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied the death of its Chairman, Mr Bola Babarinde.

A statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeriain Lagos on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary of the Chapter, Mr Sani David, said Bolarinde was still alive contrary to misleading media reports of his death.

The statement read; “The APC South Africa Chapter is aware of the passing away of Mr. Taiye Olusola Abe, who was until his death a staunch pillar of the Nigerian community in South Africa.

“The APC South Africa chapter has offered their condolences and also wish to use this medium to commiserate with the family of the deceased on the loss of their loved one who died after a brief illness.

However, the APC South Africa Chapter deems it necessary to issue this press release to state categorically that the late Mr. Taiye Olusola Abe was not its chairman.

The bonafide Chairman of the APC South Africa is Engr. Bola Babarinde, who is still very much alive, hale and hearty.”

“The APC South Africa is, therefore, calling the attention of the various media organisations who may have published the false and misleading report of the death of its chairman to kindly retract such reports. We, therefore, urge them to let the public know that Engr. Bola Babarinde, the Chairman of the APC South Africa is not dead,” Mr. Sani said.

4. APC crisis is threatening your legacy – Director-General of the Progressives Governors forum tells Buhari.

The Director-General of the Progressives Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman, has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari to take steps to halt the chaos in the All Progressives Congress in order to protect his legacy.

The Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) is the umbrella body of all governors elected on the platform of the APC. There are currently 20 governors who are members of the forum.

This urge by the Director-General of the PGF was contained in a memo written by him, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja, today being Thursday.

Lukman said, “What makes the situation more frustrating is the reticence of President Buhari in the face of what obviously could damage the legacy he will bequeath to the nation.

“While we must celebrate the fact that his leadership style is required to ensure that the party is managed independently and therefore made possible for the exercise of the supremacy of the party based on decisions of organs, ‘old ambition-Virus 2023’ may have weakened the capacity of the party to benefit from the commendable leadership approach of President Buhari.”

According to him, all well-meaning members of the APC should be ashamed of what is currently happening within the governing party, which he said was “gradually slipping into disintegration with a defective leadership”.

He wondered why a political party which parades leaders such as President Muhammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and so many others find it difficult to reorganise the party to fulfil the dreams of its founding fathers.

The Director-General recommended that a National Executive Committee meeting be convened to resolve all outstanding issues thrashed out.

5. Football viewing centers re-opens, and defy Federal Government’s directives against re-opening.

It was business as usual for operators of football viewing centres in some parts of the country, as they entertained customers during Wednesday’s English Premier League games, in defiance to the directive of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, which placed a ban on viewing centres operating in the country.

The EPL, which has a large following in Nigeria, returned to action on Wednesday after it was suspended for over 2 months now due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The league’s return came as a respite to hitherto aggrieved fans, most of who belonged to the lower class and patronise viewing centres for European football.

Some owners of viewing centres in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo and Ekiti states, who spoke to our correspondent last week, expressed delight at the return of the EPL.

They also revealed their plans to maintain social distancing among viewers during the live games.

But a statement by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, warning against the re-opening of football viewing centres, dashed the hopes of the operators who have been counting their losses since the global ban on sporting activities.

But checks showed that several viewing centres opened on Wednesday, with fans trooping in to watch the EPL matches involving Aston Villa versus Sheffield United and Manchester City versus Arsenal.

It was also observed that football fans in several of the viewing centres didn’t wear facemasks and also failed to observe social distancing. Also, there were no sanitary facilities on ground for usage.

He added that President Buhari also directed that the highway project should be completed by 2021 to address the deficient infrastructure in the region and boast the economic life of the people.

Akpabio explained that the East-West road which was conceived in 2006 during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration was to be completed in 2010, but this was stalled principally due to paucity of funds.

The minister noted that despite the chequered history of the project which may not require less than 102billion Naira for its overall completion, President Muhammadu Buhari in line with the determination of his administration to address the issue of deficient infrastructure in the country, has graciously decided to consider issues surrounding the delay in the completion of the project with a Presidential pronouncement on June 12, 2020, target to ensure that what needs to be done is put in place for the completion of the East-West road by 2021.

“The project which starts from the Delta Steel company Roundabout in Delta State, transverses through Kaiama in Bayelsa State, goes through Ahoada in Port Harcourt in Rivers State, down to Eket and from Eket to Oron in Akwa-Ibom State, is to complete the Section I-IV being part of the two sections that had previously been completed. Section–V which covers 23km from Oron to Calabar is still under process,” Senator Akpabio said.

On Tuesday, after meeting with President Buhari in Abuja, Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, announced his resignation from the ruling APC, he did not state his new party, but the governor made it clear that he would be seeking reelection.

Given the fact that the Nigerian Constitution did not give room for an independent candidate, it is certain that Obaseki will pitch his tent with another Party. The consensus among political players is that the governor will most likely become a member of the opposition PDP.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-1883810847636355&output=html&h=316&slotname=8228856220&adk=2284129001&adf=11791422&w=379&fwrn=7&lmt=1592503784&rafmt=11&psa=1&guci=2.2.0.0.2.2.0.0&format=379×316&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn-af.feednews.com%2Fnews%2Fdetail%2F6e201c1cdf8b0b84a3116ad3ba1f3b79_ng%3Fclient%3Dnews%26country%3Dng%26features%3D34359738287%26lang%3Den%26language%3Den%26low_perf%3Dfalse%26mode%3Dbody%26swdp%3D411%26uid%3D59ea195a14c73245908b3459860979f93f145498&flash=0&wgl=1&adsid=NT&dt=1592503784054&bpp=23&bdt=3929&idt=-M&shv=r20200610&cbv=r20190131&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D707cbc3539aa4e10%3AT%3D1592419423%3AS%3DALNI_Mboab6yKsRb-68uklt6Ax5OdDP5JA&crv=1&prev_fmts=0x0&nras=1&correlator=6388340018541&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=12903382.1592419337&ga_sid=1592503783&ga_hid=30315359&ga_fc=0&iag=0&icsg=10529023&dssz=15&mdo=0&mso=0&rplot=4&u_tz=60&u_his=1&u_java=0&u_h=892&u_w=412&u_ah=892&u_aw=412&u_cd=24&u_nplug=0&u_nmime=0&adx=16&ady=669&biw=412&bih=719&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=42530493%2C42530495&oid=3&pvsid=1854523546237612&pem=714&rx=0&eae=0&fc=1924&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C412%2C0%2C412%2C719%2C412%2C719&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7CoEe%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=8336&bc=31&ifi=1&uci=a!1&fsb=1&xpc=3kQxLMqziZ&p=https%3A//cdn-af.feednews.com&dtd=69

Indeed, Obaseki has made obvious moves to the leaders of the PDP after it became clear that he will not get the chance to become the flagbearer of the APC in the Guber election later this year. However, the soundbite from the PDP will not please the governor, he has been told, quite publicly, that he will not be granted an automatic ticket to contest.

Also, some members of the Party believe Obaseki, despite being a governor, will not be an electoral asset in Edo State hence the lack of enthusiasm over his defection.

The PDP and APC are the biggest parties in Nigeria, but it is on record that elections have been won in the country by candidates not represented on both platforms, a good example is APGA which since its formation has always controlled at least one state in the South Eastern parts of Nigeria.

But decamping to APGA will not help Obaseki as the party is viewed mostly as an Igbo party by most Nigerians that are not of that ethnic extraction, however, the Labour Party is another platform that has enjoyed some measure of success in the polls, former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, was elected on that platform in his first term.

Though not as large as the APC and the PDP, the Labour Party has always been viewed as a formidable outside choice for a politician looking to branch out of the established order.

To this end, should governor Obaseki look to take the fight to his former allies in the APC by pitching his tent with the PDP, or should he use his relative advantage as a sitting governor to break out of the established order and fly the flag of another party like the Labour Party, for instance, in the governorship elections?

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, made this known at a Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

The minister represented by the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt Musa Nuhu, said, “June 21st is not a feasible date to resume domestic operations.

“The civil aviation authority despite pressures coming from all quarters will not approve the start any day until we are sure and we confirm that we are ready to start in a safe, secure, organised and efficient manner. To do otherwise is disastrous for all of us.

“If we open the industry when we are not ready, and we are guilty of spreading coronavirus, God forbid we have any incident, I believe the government will come hard on us and it is going to be counterproductive and disastrous for the industry.”

Meanwhile, the Special Assistant to the President, Sabiu Tunde Yusuf, has resumed work, jettisoning advice to go on self-isolation after returning from Lagos recently.

Sabiu, who is popularly known as Tunde, a name he was given after Tunde Idiagbon, the second-in-command to then Major General Muhammadu Buhari during the military regime, was sighted in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday.

It would be recalled that Aisha Buhari had approached Tunde to respect the COVID-19 guidelines, following his alleged refusal to go on self-isolation for 14 days.

The first lady’s encounter with Tunde, reportedly in the company of her children ,was said to have gone out of hand after the involvement of security personnel who shot into the air,  breaching the security protocol in the State House, Abuja.

The development had led to the arrest of security aides attached to the president’s wife, including her Aide-De-Camp, Shugaba, and Escort Commander.

Mrs Buhari, unhappy with the move by the police authorities, had called on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, via Twitter handle, to free her ADC and other police aides taken into custody.

Daily Trust learnt that President Buhari was not disturbed about the development since Tunde returned the day he travelled to Lagos, a situation which may not require self-isolation.

Already, President Buhari had ordered an investigation into the security breach at the State House, Abuja.

Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, had in a statement on Sunday said the president was not under any form of danger arising, either from deadly infections or the reported incident by security personnel currently under investigation.

The spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, Frank Mba, when contacted by one of our reporters for a comment last night, neither answered phone calls nor replied a test message sent to him.
