Shocking Story Of Nigerian Man Who R*ped A 73-Year-Old Woman In Ireland

The victim was attacked in her room in the early hours of 3 April, during the height of the Covid-19 lockdown.

The pensioner’s family told the court the rapist had “destroyed our mam’s life”

A healthcare assistant who admitted raping a 73-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s in an Irish nursing home has been given an 11-year sentence.

The victim was attacked in her room in the early hours of 3 April, during the height of the Covid-19 lockdown.

She was found in a distressed state later that morning by a staff member.

Emmanuel Adeniji, of Royal Canal Court, Kilcock in County Kildare, had denied rape but later pleaded guilty after his DNA matched a sample from the victim.

The 52-year-old worked in healthcare for 15 years before the attack and he had no previous convictions.

The judge at Dublin’s Central Criminal Court described the rape as “an egregious breach of trust by a qualified and experienced healthcare worker”.

The victim’s family told the court Adeniji had “single-handedly destroyed our mam’s life”.

CCTV footage from the nursing home at the time of the rape showed Adeniji going in and coming out of the woman’s room at about 03:00 local time on 3 April.

Later that morning, another staff member found the victim upset but coherent.

Gardaí (Irish police) were called and the woman was able to make a statement about the rape.

She told officers she was in her room all the time as residents were “locked in because of the virus”.

Adeniji was arrested 11 days later.

The victim’s daughter told the Central Criminal Court that her family have been unable to hug her mother to comfort her since the attack.

“We always said we will dread the day she loses her memory, but now one day we hope she wakes up and doesn’t remember,”
 she added.

The judge said the effect of the rape on the victim had been “devastating” with the woman experiencing feelings of “depression, suicidal thoughts, nightmares and a lack of safety”.

He imposed an 11-year prison sentence on Adjeniji, with the final year suspended

Jamaica’s High Court Rules School Can Ban Dreadlocks

Jamaica’s high court ruled Friday that a school was within its rights to demand that a girl cut her dreadlocks to attend classes, a surprise decision that touched on issues of identity and one the most recognizable symbols of the island’s Rastafarian culture.

A rights group, Jamaicans for Justice, had initially lent support to the family, saying the order for the girl to cut her dreadlocks amounted a denial of her freedom of expression and her access to education.

Others viewed the court battle as a stand against rules seen as discrimination against people who wear “natural” hair, including Rastafarians whose dreadlocks are part of their religious tradition.

The girl and her parents, Dale and Sherine Virgo, who both wear dreadlocks, plan to appeal, said their lawyer, Isat Buchanan.

“I will not be cutting my daughter’s hair,” Sherine Virgo said immediately after the ruling. “If they give me that ultimatum again, I will be moving her.”

Virgo’s daughter — now 7 years old and identified in court papers only as Z because she is a minor — was attending classes at the school after the courts delivered an injunction against the Ministry of Education, allowing her to go to school with her dreadlocks intact.

When the school closed this spring because of the coronavirus pandemic, the girl was home-schooled.

“I am more than surprised. It is most unfortunate,” Buchanan said. “It is a most unfortunate day for Black people and for Rastafarian people in Jamaica.”

The girl’s father called the ruling another sign of “systemic racism.”

“A child was refused because of her Black hair, you know?” said Dale Virgo. “It’s so weird that right now in the current climate of the world, in 2020, we are having protests, and Black people are fed up.

“This is an opportunity the Jamaican government and the legal system had to right these wrongs and lead the world and make a change,” he continued. “But they have decided to keep the same system.”

The judgment was delivered in a small courtroom populated mainly by lawyers and the girl’s parents.

The minister of education, Karl Samuda, declined to comment on the ruling, which came on the eve of Emancipation Day, celebrated in Jamaica and elsewhere to mark the end of slavery in the British Empire.

“I’m very cautious about where I tread,” he said, “especially on a sensitive enough subject like that.”

Verene Shepherd, director of the Center for Reparation Research at the University of the West Indies, said the government is debating issues of student clothing and hairstyles, including dreadlocks.

The Virgos say they do not identify as Rastafarian, but they say that wearing dreadlocks is an expression of their identity. All Virgo family members wear that natural hairstyle, as do many Jamaicans who identify as Rastafarian.

Though Rastafarians account for only about 2 percent of Jamaica’s population, the movement has an outsize influence in the culture. Made popular by perhaps the world’s most famous Rastafarian, Bob Marley, it is a political and religious movement that was founded in the 1930s, drawing from African, Revivalist and Christian traditions.

Despite its popularity, Rastafarians, and people who wear natural hair, still face discrimination in Jamaica.

Some schools, including Kensington Primary, explicitly state that dreadlocks are not allowed, and other schools have banned students who refuse to cut them. In the wake of the challenge, the Ministry of Education issued guidelines for hairstyles, including a directive that if children wear dreadlocks, they must be “neat.”

“In general, I think that discrimination on the grounds of hairstyle is wrong,” Shepherd said. “I do not think our children who are Rastafari and who express their culture through their hair should be discriminated against.”

Controversial video of Buhari that cause commotion on social media.

A video clip of President Muhammadu Buhari speaking to a journalist has been trending on social media for the wrong reasons.

The founder of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, alleged that Buhari’s response didn’t tally with the question asked by the reporter.

The journalist asked the president about his personal feelings concerning the allegations of corruption trailing the Niger Delta Development Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in recent times.

In return, Buhari gave an overview of his anti-graft war which many believe was slightly off point.

“There has been abuse of trust by people trusted, by the previous administration. A number of assets are being recovered and some money. But we have introduced TSA (Treasury Single Account), where all the monies are taken. And I said assets should be sold and the money out through TSA, so that it can be identified at any level. And I will see who will come after us and take it back again to those who misappropriate public funds” Buhari said.

Sharing the video on Twitter, Sowore said Buhari has lost control of his cognitive function as he tweeted:

“No country should be burdened with a leader who’s lost COMPLETE control of his COGNITIVE functions,  @Mbuhari

has lost ALL! His ANSWERS no longer match QUESTIONS, you could see how his muppets led by @GarShehu is motioning to ask reporters to CUT! #RevolutionNow #August5th”

This has caused a massive debate online with many criticizing the publisher for insulting the president.

The PDP governors made the decision following a virtual meeting presided by its Chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto.

It was the first meeting attended by the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, who recently dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress after he was disqualified from contesting the APC governorship primary election.

Other governors who attended the meeting include; Abia State Governor and the PDP governor’s forum’s vice-chairman, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu; Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa); Senator Bala Mohammed (Bauchi); Prof Ben Ayade (Cross River); Nyesom Wike (Rivers); Dr Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) David Umahi (Ebonyi), who was represented by his deputy, Mr Eric Igwe; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); and Bello Mattawale (Zamfara).

The governor welcomed Obaseki formally into the party and congratulated him on his emergence as the party’s flag bearer in the forthcoming poll.

The PDP governors communique signed by Tambuwal reads in part; “the meeting resolved to set up two committees of the forum, namely the Legislative Liaison Committee, which is expected to liaise with both the national and state legislatures on legislative matters, and guide the forum on pending Bills, including the Electoral Act Amendment and constitutional review matters as it affects the forum; (and the) Legal Affairs Committee: This is expected to identify and coordinate legal matters affecting the forum. In particular, the committee is expected to guide the forum on local government, inter-state, and federal government relations.

“It is also expected to explore the various infractions of the constitution by the Federal Government, including the arbitrary and illegal deductions from the Federation Account.”

“The forum enjoined Mr President, INEC and security agencies to play an impartial role in the elections in Edo and Ondo states while urging PDP supporters to stay vigilant and ensure that all votes are counted and all votes count,” Tambuwal added.

Babachir Lawal, gives reasons why Tinubu should not be deny 2023 presidency.

A former secretary- General on the Federation (SGP), Babachu Lawal made his statement that nobody should deny the National leader of APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, an opportunity to contest the 2023 presidential race.

He went further, saying on an interview with Punch about power rotation to the south in 2023. Nobody with a clear conscience in the APC will deny Tinubu the opportunity to contest the presidency. Nobody within the party has the moral right to even put a stumbling block on his path.

“The party must create an environment that is free and fair for anybody who wants to contest, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu . Let the delegates, who must have emerged through a similarly free and fair process, decide who they want to vote for.”

“A just and equitable way of doing things is to agree, as gentlemen that since the North has had its president for the second tenure, the opportunity should be given to the south to produce the next president.”

Jegede To Akeredolu: Start Preparing Your Hand Over Note …..Says Electorate Are Eager To Show Him ‘Red Card’

Ondo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has told Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to start preparing his hand over note as he has seven months to leave the Alagbaka Government House, Akure.

The governorship election holds on October 10 and a new governor will be sworn-in February, 2021.

Jegede said Akeredolu never won any election in the Sunshine State in 2012 and 2016.

A statement by Gbenga Akinmoyo (GaRo),

spokesman, Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation, said: “The recent statement by His Excellency, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, forecasting his fate in the forthcoming October election is untimely and overrated. Would it not be better to have allowed the sleeping dog to lie in peace? Was it neccesary to ruffle the feathers of the people and insult their sensibilities with these bogus claims?

“As far back as 1963, Nigeria took a decision to become a Republic and thereby dispense with rulership by monarchy led by a royal family far away in Great Britain. Little did we know, the elections of 2016 in Ondo State would re-introduce the monarchical system into governance, endorsed by the party system. What is more damaging is the fact that the Emperor has manipulated the system so badly, yet he has never democratically won an election in Ondo State. Well, truth be told Aketi has never won an election in Ondo State, so what gives him the impression his luck is about to change?

“In 2012, a total of 26 aspirants travelled from Ondo State to Bourdillion in Lagos State to determine who would be the candidate of the now defunct Action Congress of Nigerian (ACN). Aketi returned from Lagos as the nominee.

“Feeling on top of the world, he boasted his victory in the October 2012 Governorship election three months ahead. Not only did he lose, but finished a far distant third behind Dr Olusegun Mimiko of Labour Party and Chief Olusola Oke of the PDP.

“In 2016, Aketi returned from Ibadan, his place of regular domicile, to contest on the platform of APC. For a young political party at that time, Aketi made history by orchestrating the most controversially doctored party primaries in Ondo State to be recorded as the flag bearer through the back door.

“A few months later at the governorship elections, we now know that Aketi didn’t win the elections, following disclosure by the immediate past SSG, Hon Ifedayo Abegunde. He was fortunate that PDP didn’t challenge the outcome of the 2016 results.

“We are now in 2020 and the external forces of the Presidency, Governor El-Rufai and Governor Fayemi have worked overdrive to save Aketi being screened out of the APC Primaries before eligibility for a contest in which he ought not have been a contestant.

“Our advice to Arakurin is to use the next 7 months to try hard and amend the poor conditions prevalent throughout the state before packing his bags and leaving Government House in February 2021. Ondo State citizenry have no choice on that because his constitutional term of office is 4 years.

“To boldly declare in public that such abysmal stay will be extended is to rely on a greater force than the will of the people. I’m sorry to disappoint Arakurin that the Rigging and Trickery tactics, which he intends to rely upon, are now obsolete and cannot save him in October 2020.

“Apart from the fact that some of his hatchet men have fallen out with him, a fed-up electorate are ready and eager to show him the red card”.
