Babajide Sanwo-Olu-Obafemi Hamzat administration says that the issues have been long held in the neck of the government and has put necessary measures in place to mitigate climate change-induced environmental challenges in the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while addressing this issue talked about measures in place to explore effective urban planning, developmental control, drainage designs, dredging, construction of drainage channels, and environmental education to mitigate all climate change-induced problems confronting the state. He discussed it with other government agencies.

This is what he plans to achieve from 2020-2022.

1. Following the predictions of Nigerian Meteorological Agency NIMET, who said Lagosians should prepare for 240-270 days of rains. Gov Sanwo-Olu said that his administration will embark on extensive dredging of water channel projects across the state.

Based on this, he said the government has started the project on massive desilting of drains, clearing of culverts with identification of black spots, in preparation for the rains to come.

2. In collaboration with the Governor, Mr. Tunji Bello, the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources disclosed that some bad channels that stop the flow of water have been worked on, while 83 are been maintained and 40 new Channels have been approved by the Governor to be constructed. The Commissioner said that 34 channels out of the 40 that has been mapped out for construction have started.

3. Sanwo-Olu has assured and plans to maintain and sustain the long-established synergy and partnership with Ogun – Osun River Development Authority. The reason is that the partnership will ensure control and monitoring of the steady and systematic release of water from the Oyan Dam to prevent flooding of the release of the downstream communities.

4. In the area of waste management, Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Media, Mr. Babatunde Alao, said that Sanwo-Olu administration has repositioned the Lagos Waste Management Authority LAWMA, for an effective and resourceful waste management program towards the elimination of refuse in the state.

Also with the support of the Public Sector Participation operators, he stated that LAWMA has successfully cleaned most wastes dumped and littered in different parts of the state.

5. Sanwo-Olu said his administration has acquired 10 new boats to boost marine waste collection in collaboration with the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance.

This will help in preserving aquatic flora and Duna in the state in line with government policies on constant clean-up for a better aesthetic environment.

6. Regarding beautification and development of parks and gardens, Sanwo-Olu maintained that they have been improved upon, adding that Oregun park and others across the state were being designed to promote relaxation, recreation, and picnic.

He added that LAWMA also introduced the construction, demolition, and Disaster Waste Management initiative to prevent, minimize, reuse, recycle, recover and dispose of waste, adding that the Blue Box initiative was introduced to the system to encourage separation of recyclables materials from the general waste.

7. He disclosed that five community recycling centers have been activated in five local council development areas with recyclers strategically positioned to help drive the process.

The Governor has advised Lagos, residents, to get prepared for coming rains, they should take responsibility for there belongings and help the government by avoiding littering the streets and gutters and then be assured that the government would continue to reap the gains of planning, as the flood control measures in the state had been stepped up to contain any unforeseen weather condition and flooding.

This Is what the governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos plans to achieve in this raining season.

Do you think his claims are attainable? Or the just promises?

Reasons why women deliver through operation.

Women usually deliver their babies through two methods;

1) Spontaneous V*ginal Delivery

2) Caesarean Section/C-section/CS

It is important to note that no method of delivery is superior to the other. Even though doctors would prefer the spontaneous v*ginal delivery, the C-section becomes an option when the life of either the mother or the baby is at stake.

There are some situations where the doctor will suggest a surgical operation (C-section) for safe delivery.

Some of these situations include;

1) Two Previous C-sections

If you have had two previous operations to deliver a baby, you should be prepared for another operation if you so happen to become pregnant again. This is because operations on the womb may weaken it and the womb might not be able to withstand the stress of labour. Allowing labour on a woman who has had two previous operations on the womb may lead to rupture of that womb which is life threatening.

2) Small Pelvis Ratio

In common parlance, some people may refer to the pelvis as the hips. The ratio of the ‘hips’ to the baby’s size is important.

If the baby is too big to pass through the pelvis, there is no way that baby will be delivered through the common route.

A C-section would be the best option.

3) Malpresentations

This can be detected through scans. Normally, a baby should come, with the head at the front facing downwards.

Sometimes, a baby may lie in abnormal positions known as malpresentations. This may prolong labour and warrant an operation.

4) Poor Labour Progress

The rate of widening of the cervix can be used as an indicator for good labour progress.

In a normal active labour, the cervix is meant to widen at the rate of 1cm per hour. If the cervix does not widen for 4 hours during active labour, the labour is deemed as ‘failure to progress’ and this is an indication for a C-section.

5) Diabetes in Pregnancy

This is not an absolute reason for an operation but a lot of times in mothers who are diabetic during pregnancy, the baby tends to grow really big. This makes delivery through the v*ginal route difficult and a C-section might be the best option.

Others

There are a whole lot of other reasons that may necessitate a C-section to be done. Some of these were not listed due to the need to make this article concise and the technicalities involved in explaining them.

Some of these include;

-Old age at first pregnancy

-Long history of infertility

-Baby in distress

-Placenta problems

-Severe hypertension in pregnancy

Among others.

Bottom Line

In some African societies, some women are made jest of because they were delivered of their babies through operation. This should be frowned upon as the decision concerning the mode of delivery is taken by the doctor with the thought of saving both mother and baby.

C-section is nothing to be ashamed of.

EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu’s Lawyer opens up, reveals reason for ‘Arrest ‘.

Oluwatoyin Ojaomo, a lawyer to embattled chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has given an insight into Magu’s reported arrest on Monday.

Mr Magu was intercepted by security operatives at the Wuse II office of the EFCC and whisked away to face a Presidential Panel in Aso rock over allegations of insubordination and corruption

Speaking during a Channels Television interview on Monday night, Ojaomo disclosed that his client is supposed to be praised instead of vilified.

According to him, Magu was being grilled by the panel because the amount of money recovered by the agency from corrupt individuals was different from the figure the agency officially declared to the Presidency.

In his words; “The Pro-Panel is just to clarify the activities of the organization. They are only going there to clarify the activities of the commission.”

“The EFCC reports to the President and if the president says..yes..there is a lot of allegation..that Magu has done this, Magu has done that..The president felt that because of the image of the commission and these allegations that are flying around…He wants to know what are these allegations. Let it be investigated for it to be clarified and the EFCC chairman went there to clarify.”

“What is even basically the allegation? They said the amount the EFCC chairman announced to the presidency is different from what that was paid, that the money is more. They are not saying it is lesser, it’s more than the amount. What you should understand is that the recoveries by the EFCC is an ongoing operation.”

He also added that the forces behind corruption in Nigeria are fighting back.

“When you are fighting corruption, the forces behind corruption are so powerful, they are more powerful than COVID-19”

“You can imagine what is happening. Instead of Magu to be celebrated, those powerful corrupt persons who have the media backing them are trying to call a dog a bad name so they can hang it” he said.
