Reasons why women deliver through operation.

Women usually deliver their babies through two methods;

1) Spontaneous V*ginal Delivery

2) Caesarean Section/C-section/CS

It is important to note that no method of delivery is superior to the other. Even though doctors would prefer the spontaneous v*ginal delivery, the C-section becomes an option when the life of either the mother or the baby is at stake.

There are some situations where the doctor will suggest a surgical operation (C-section) for safe delivery.

Some of these situations include;

1) Two Previous C-sections

If you have had two previous operations to deliver a baby, you should be prepared for another operation if you so happen to become pregnant again. This is because operations on the womb may weaken it and the womb might not be able to withstand the stress of labour. Allowing labour on a woman who has had two previous operations on the womb may lead to rupture of that womb which is life threatening.

2) Small Pelvis Ratio

In common parlance, some people may refer to the pelvis as the hips. The ratio of the ‘hips’ to the baby’s size is important.

If the baby is too big to pass through the pelvis, there is no way that baby will be delivered through the common route.

A C-section would be the best option.

3) Malpresentations

This can be detected through scans. Normally, a baby should come, with the head at the front facing downwards.

Sometimes, a baby may lie in abnormal positions known as malpresentations. This may prolong labour and warrant an operation.

4) Poor Labour Progress

The rate of widening of the cervix can be used as an indicator for good labour progress.

In a normal active labour, the cervix is meant to widen at the rate of 1cm per hour. If the cervix does not widen for 4 hours during active labour, the labour is deemed as ‘failure to progress’ and this is an indication for a C-section.

5) Diabetes in Pregnancy

This is not an absolute reason for an operation but a lot of times in mothers who are diabetic during pregnancy, the baby tends to grow really big. This makes delivery through the v*ginal route difficult and a C-section might be the best option.

Others

There are a whole lot of other reasons that may necessitate a C-section to be done. Some of these were not listed due to the need to make this article concise and the technicalities involved in explaining them.

Some of these include;

-Old age at first pregnancy

-Long history of infertility

-Baby in distress

-Placenta problems

-Severe hypertension in pregnancy

Among others.

Bottom Line

In some African societies, some women are made jest of because they were delivered of their babies through operation. This should be frowned upon as the decision concerning the mode of delivery is taken by the doctor with the thought of saving both mother and baby.

C-section is nothing to be ashamed of.

It’s important for women trying to conceive to keep a diary of their cycle. This will help them get to know their cycle.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-1883810847636355&output=html&h=316&slotname=8228856220&adk=1635352823&adf=2524900500&w=379&fwrn=7&lmt=1593001902&rafmt=11&psa=1&guci=2.2.0.0.2.2.0.0&format=379×316&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn-af.feednews.com%2Fnews%2Fdetail%2F15ef5346b25de3ed092cb29d62fc801d%3Fclient%3Dnews%26country%3Dng%26features%3D34359738287%26lang%3Den%26language%3Den%26low_perf%3Dfalse%26mode%3Dbody%26swdp%3D411%26uid%3D59ea195a14c73245908b3459860979f93f145498&flash=0&wgl=1&adsid=NT&dt=1593001902957&bpp=34&bdt=2759&idt=-M&shv=r20200618&cbv=r20190131&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D743a8124cc329171%3AT%3D1592753908%3AS%3DALNI_MacYtEF8sXZfleBTkZwP_LqtDjwkQ&prev_fmts=0x0&nras=1&correlator=8554642383119&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=944435209.1592753818&ga_sid=1593001903&ga_hid=2097522421&ga_fc=0&iag=0&icsg=2632447&dssz=13&mdo=0&mso=0&rplot=4&u_tz=60&u_his=1&u_java=0&u_h=892&u_w=412&u_ah=892&u_aw=412&u_cd=24&u_nplug=0&u_nmime=0&adx=16&ady=764&biw=412&bih=719&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=42530493%2C42530495&oid=3&pvsid=718507951374850&pem=714&rx=0&eae=0&fc=1924&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C412%2C0%2C412%2C719%2C412%2C719&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7CoEebr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=8336&bc=31&ifi=1&uci=a!1&btvi=1&fsb=1&xpc=B4VZ8YFXG6&p=https%3A//cdn-af.feednews.com&dtd=64

Getting Pregnant
A woman can get pregnant, even if intercourse occurs before ovulation. This is because sperm can live in a female’s Fallopian tubes for up to seven days. This means the sperm can fertilize an egg several days after intercourse. It is important to remember that even though there are days that pregnancy is more likely, pregnancy can occur anytime with unprotected sex.

Factors Affecting Pregnancy
There are several factors that can affect a woman’s chances of getting pregnant, states WebMD.

Age: The older a woman, the lower the chances. After age 30, a woman’s chances of conceiving decline. After age 40, women experience a sharp decline. However, it is still possible to get pregnant after 40.
Irregular periods: For women who have irregular cycles, it can be hard to determine ovulation. That is because ovulation may not occur at the same time each month.

Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions or illnesses can affect pregnancy. If a woman has concerns about her medical history, she should talk with a doctor before trying to conceive.
How to Increase Pregnancy Chances
There are things couples can do to increase their odds of getting pregnant, notes WebMD.

Frequent intercourse: Many couples will time sex with ovulation. However, it is recommended that couples have intercourse more than just on ovulation days. Some experts say couples should have intercourse every other day to increase their chances of conceiving. However, if it is suspected that the male has a low sperm count, talk with a doctor first.

Stay in bed: Right after intercourse, stay in bed for about 15 minutes. This can increase the chances of the sperm getting into the cervix. There are myths that raising legs in the air will help, but doctors say that is not true.

Relax: Stress can interfere with ovulation. So, the more a woman is stressed, the harder it will be to conceive. Harvard Medical School conducted a study of 184 women experiencing fertility problems. More than half of those who completed a course on relaxation training become pregnant within one year, compared to 20 percent who did take the relaxation training.

Get moderate exercise: Too much exercise can affect ovulation. However, moderate exercise can help. Try to get exercise five times a week for at least 30 minutes.

Don’t smoke: Smoking can actually decrease fertility as it affects estrogen levels.

Follow a healthy diet: It is important to have a healthy diet and avoid alcohol. Speak with a doctor about taking prenatal vitamins when you are trying to conceive. This is good for both the mother and essential for a baby.

Health benefits of eating Cucumbers

Cucumber is a fruit of the family Cucurbitaceae. This belongs to the same family aszucchini, watermelon, pumpkin, and other forms of summer squash, scientifically known as Cucumis sativus. The plant where the cucumber grows is a creeping vine that produces these cylindrical, edible fruits all year round. It is packed with vitamins A, B, C, K, potassium, and manganese that are very important to the human body.

Cucumbers are called slicing cucumbers which are typically eaten fresh. Gherkin cucumbers are produced particularly for making pickles (also known as pickled cucumbers). These are much smaller in size than those that slice. Slicing cucumbers are available year-round but between May and July, they are at their best. When consumed in large amounts, sugar can drive insulin resistance and is strongly linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It’s also associated with various serious conditions, including type 2 diabetes and heart disease

Some people believe that sugary drinks are the most fattening aspect of the modern diet — and drinking them in large amounts can drive fat gain and obesity

More health benefits of guava?

Medically reviewed by Natalie Olsen, R.D., L.D., ACSM EP-C on March 20, 2019 — Written by Lana Burgess

Guava is a traditional remedy for a range of health conditions. Research suggests that guava fruits and leaves may have a number of benefits.

Guavas are tropical fruits with yellowish-green skin, and they grow on trees in Central America. The Latin name for the common guava tree is Psidium guajava.

People use guava leaf tea as a treatment for diarrhea in several countries, including India and China. In other countries, such as Mexico, people have traditionally used the flesh of the fruit to heal wounds.

In this article, we explore some potential health benefits and uses of guava. We also describe nutritional information, risks, and how to incorporate guava into the diet.

Type 2 diabetes

Guava fruit may help treat a range of conditions, including type 2 diabetes.

Guava leaf tea may help prevent spikes in blood sugar and improve symptoms in people with type 2 diabetes.

2010 review of evidence from clinical trials and animal studies suggests that guava leaf tea may help improve insulin resistance and lower blood sugar levels.

These benefits may result from compounds in guava leaf extract helping to moderate glucose absorption after a person eats a meal.

Menstrual cramps

Taking supplements containing guava leaf extract may reduce menstrual cramps.

The results of a study from 2007 suggest that taking guava leaf extract supplements may relieve menstrual pain in women with primary dysmenorrhea.

Diarrhea

Guava leaf tea is a traditional remedy for diarrhea in many parts of the world.

Evidence from animal studies suggests that the leaf extract may have the potential to treat infectious diarrhea.

2015 study investigated the use of this extract in mice with infectious diarrhea. The infection cleared more quickly in the mice who consumed guava leaf extract than in those who did not. The researchers noted that guava leaf extract shows promise as a treatment for this illness.

Another study from 2015 found that guava leaf extract helped control diarrhea in chickens with Escherichia coli infections.

However, scientists need to carry out more research to confirm these findings in humans.

Flu

Drinking guava leaf tea is an easy way to enjoy the health benefits of the fruit.

Drinking guava leaf tea may help people fight off the flu.

In a 2012 test tube study, guava leaf tea showed promise as an antiviral agent for flu treatment. The researchers found that the tea inhibited the growth of the virus that causes the flu.

The antiviral effect of the tea may result from the leaf’s flavanols, which are a natural antioxidant.

Blood pressure

Consuming guava leaf extract may help lower high blood pressure.

2016 test tube study found that the extract had an antihypertensive effect in rat tissues, which means that it may have the potential to reduce blood pressure.

This effect may be due to the leaf extract’s antioxidant properties. Antioxidants may lower blood pressure by helping to expand blood vessels.

However, scientists need to carry out more studies to determine whether guava leaf extract can reduce high blood pressure in humans.

Osteoarthritis

Some research in animals suggests that guava leaf extract may benefit people with osteoarthritis.

2018 study found that consuming the extract protected against cartilage destruction in rats with induced osteoarthritis.

Cancer

Guava leaf extract may eventually play a role in cancer treatment.

Results of a 2014 test tube, animal, and computer study suggest that compounds in the extract may inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

The researchers believe that the effect may occur because guava leaf compounds act like selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs).

SERMs are a class of drugs that doctors use to treat cancer. They work by preventing cancer cells from multiplying.

However, scientists need to conduct clinical trials in humans to better understand the potential for these compounds to combat cancer.
