Amachree said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme Today being Tuesday, 7th of July 2020.

He said based on the large number of allegations Magu is facing before a Presidential panel, it would be difficult for him to go scot-free.

EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu’s Lawyer opens up, reveals reason for ‘Arrest ‘.

Oluwatoyin Ojaomo, a lawyer to embattled chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has given an insight into Magu’s reported arrest on Monday.

Mr Magu was intercepted by security operatives at the Wuse II office of the EFCC and whisked away to face a Presidential Panel in Aso rock over allegations of insubordination and corruption

Speaking during a Channels Television interview on Monday night, Ojaomo disclosed that his client is supposed to be praised instead of vilified.

According to him, Magu was being grilled by the panel because the amount of money recovered by the agency from corrupt individuals was different from the figure the agency officially declared to the Presidency.

In his words; “The Pro-Panel is just to clarify the activities of the organization. They are only going there to clarify the activities of the commission.”

“The EFCC reports to the President and if the president says..yes..there is a lot of allegation..that Magu has done this, Magu has done that..The president felt that because of the image of the commission and these allegations that are flying around…He wants to know what are these allegations. Let it be investigated for it to be clarified and the EFCC chairman went there to clarify.”

“What is even basically the allegation? They said the amount the EFCC chairman announced to the presidency is different from what that was paid, that the money is more. They are not saying it is lesser, it’s more than the amount. What you should understand is that the recoveries by the EFCC is an ongoing operation.”

He also added that the forces behind corruption in Nigeria are fighting back.

“When you are fighting corruption, the forces behind corruption are so powerful, they are more powerful than COVID-19”

“You can imagine what is happening. Instead of Magu to be celebrated, those powerful corrupt persons who have the media backing them are trying to call a dog a bad name so they can hang it” he said.

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, says that Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano are ready for recommencement of domestic flights.

Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos

Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos

The minister said during the daily Presidential Task Force briefing on Monday in Abuja that Lagos, Abuja and Kano airports would recommence domestic flights on Wednesday.

He urged all passengers and crews to obey the COVID-19 protocols to ensure safety of the airports and airplanes against the virus

Sirika said that five countries in Africa and over one hundred countries across the globe have already started domestic air service.

On the preparation on the airplanes, the minister stated that the last row of the aircraft would be free so that persons with symptoms could be evacuated and kept there.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sirika had recently embarked on assessment of the airports which, he said, were 90 percent ready to commence operations.

He said that what remained was surface cleaning and bags provision which would be perfected as soon as flight resumes.

The minister had also maintained that non-travelling aides of all dignitaries would no longer be allowed into the terminal as part of the new protocol.

On the time to be spent with the new protocol, the minister said: “The experience is quite nice, but it takes a bit of time which is why you will need to be at the airport three hours before your departure time for local flights. For international flights, we may do five hours.”about:blank

On the protocol inside the flight, the minister said: “There would also be social distancing in the aircraft. But new ideas were coming on board on how to remain seated to make the cabin economically okay and to ensure Nigerians don’t infect each other.”

He added that those new norms were coming and they would implement them in such a way that flights were profitable.

APC leader, Bola Tinubu

APC leader, Bola Tinubu

Tinubu, in a statement by his Media Aide, Mr Tunde Rahman, in Lagos on Monday, condoled with the family, friends and political associates of the party stalwart, who once served as Minister of Sports and Youth Development.

He described the late Abdulkadir, who served as National Vice-Chairman, North-West, as a friend and associate, who contributed to the merger arrangement that led to the creation of APC as well as the progress and development of the party

The late Abdulkadir played a prominent role in the creation and sustenance of the party. He was also a grassroots politician.

“He was a prominent legal luminary, who served his state, Sokoto, Nigeria and the legal profession to the best of his ability.

“I commiserate with members of his immediate and extended family, particularly his wife and children, who have lost their father and patriarch,” Tinubu said.

Prayer points that God answers speedily.

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth,” Psalm 121:1-2.

Beloved! Permit me to carry you on this journey of accessing your true helper outside of humanity. Biblically, we are meant to understand that the help of every man comes from God and if it does not come from God then it’s quick. God has spoken and his word is settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89). Now if the word of God is settled in heaven then it’s real, sealed and unalterable and that makes it authentic.

Pray these prayers that can draw your help speedily from God in time of need:

Father, I thank you for all the good things you have done in my life in Jesus name

Oh lord showed me mercy wherever I have fallen short of your glory in Jesus name

Father maximize my faith to trust in you the more all the days of my life in Jesus name

Heavenly Father the grace to only look unto to you for help release it for me now in the name of Jesus

When I call you in time of need answer me speedily O Lord in Jesus name

Holy spirit send me my destiny helpers in Jesus name

Father does not forsake in the day of trouble when I call onto you in Jesus name

Father glorify yourself in my life in the name of Jesus

Baptise me with the spirit of divine favour oh lord in the name of Jesus

Father rearrange all governmental policy for my good in the name of Jesus

The lion of Judah seal my life with your presence in Jesus name

When men shall say there is a casting down then I shall say there is a lifting up in Jesus name

Open the floodgate of heaven heavenly father, let blessings reign in my life in Jesus name

King of king cause all my destiny helper’s sleepless night till they help me in Jesus name

Father whatever help you can’t render to me take my mind off from it in Jesus name

Father, there is something that makes me come again in your presence, help me O Lord by opening unlimited channels of blessings for me in Jesus name

Father wherever your blessings can’t take me to let me never find myself there in Jesus name

I break every curse of failure over my life in Jesus name

Any land the sore of my feet shall touch I shall take it in Jesus name

Father thank you for granting all my petitions in Jesus name.

The Nigerian Medical Association and the Nigeria Union of Teachers, on Tuesday, took a swipe at the Federal Government over its “safe reopening of schools.’

The apex organisations of medical doctors and teachers in the country told The PUNCH that the directive that graduating classes should resume was not only badly thought-out, but also could expose both teachers and pupils to the deadly coronavirus.

The NMA President, Prof Innocent Ujah, who spoke to one of our correspondents in Jos, said that given the current low level of compliance by Nigerians with COVID-19 safety protocols, it was risky to ask pupils to resume.

The NUT General Secretary, Mike Ene, said government was playing politics with the directive. He wondered how teachers, who had not been paid salaries in some states, would get money to buy personal protective equipment.

Ujah and Ene spoke just as the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Tuesday became the latest prominent Nigerian to test positive for the virus.

Following the governor’s disclosure of his COVID-19 status, the state government ordered commissioners and other aides of Akeredolu to compulsorily go for the coronavirus test.

But as concerns mounted over the spread of COVID-19, the NMA faulted Monday’s pronouncement by the Federal Government on the reopening of schools.

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, at its briefing in Abuja, said the government in what it called “safe reopening of schools,” had approved resumption of pupils in graduating classes including primary six, the Junior Secondary School 3 and the Senior Secondary School 3.

The government also lifted the ban it placed on interstate travels and domestic flights.

2. Mohammed promises to complete N11bn Bauchi road projects.

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has vowed to complete three road projects abandoned by his predecessor at the cost of over N11bn.

Recall that the three projects were part of the over N20bn contracts awarded by Mohammed Abubakar in September 2016.

While the construction and dualisation of Awalah Round –Miri was awarded at the cost of N6.6bn, the rehabilitation of Misau – Bulkachuwa Road and that of Bulkachuwa –Udubo were awarded at the cost of over N4.8bn.

Mohammed said all the projects had been reviewed, adding that the completion of all abandoned projects was in fulfilment of his campaign promises.

He said, “As a responsible government, we are doing all these with percussion and negotiations and I pledged to provide them with the necessary resources for immediate mobilisation to site.

“All these projects were awarded since 2016 and my administration will set up funds to pay them what they require for the completion of the projects.”

3. Lagos records 200 new COVID-19 cases.

Lagos State recorded another higher daily toll on Tuesday as Nigeria’s COVID-19 jumped to 25,694 with 561 new cases.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Tuesday, registered 561 new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the national tally to 25,694.

The NCDC disclosed daily figures on its verified Twitter handle with Lagos leading with 200 cases.

Seventeen people have also died in the various isolation centres in the last 24 hours. The death toll was the highest single-day record in recent weeks.

4. COVID-19: Lafia motorists, passengers violate protocols.

Drivers and passengers in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, do not adhere to NCDC protocols meant to check the spread of COVID-19.

At the crowded Lafia Central Motor Park, our reporter observed that nobody was observing social distancing, washing of hands and very few wore face mask.

A passenger at the park, John Ogah, said using face mask in Lafia was a burden as the town was hot.

Ogah added that many villagers came into the town for shopping and that they usually forgot about the COVID-19 protocols.

Another passenger, Mamman Bukar, said, “Travellers try to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols, but the economic downturn has forced them to only wash their hands, but when boarding vehicles, social distancing is not observed because four passengers sit on a row.”

An official of NURTW said some educated and rich passengers chartered cars in order to observe social distancing.

He said on market days most commercial vehicles did not observe social distancing as they were overloaded with people and goods.

This is happening even as the Governor of the state, Abdullahi Sule, recently expressed worry over the spread of COVID-19 in Lafia.

Gov. Sule said this during the weekly State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the Government House, Lafia.

He lamented that Lafia with 35 positive cases had overtaken Keffi LGA which had 31 and that Karu LGA had the highest recorded cases, with 78, in the state.

He decried the manner in which some residents ignored regulations put in place to contain further spread of the virus, stressing that government was concerned because Lafia was the seat of power in the state.

Gov. Sule, therefore, called on members of the SEC and the state COVID-19 task force to step up awareness campaign with a view to educating residents of the city on the urgent need to observe and keep all regulations to stop the spread of the virus.
